Audrey Wurdemann won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1935 for her book Bright Ambush, and, at age 24, was the youngest winner of that award. She published five volumes of poems, and was the great-granddaughter of Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Together with her husband, Joseph Auslander, she collaborated on short stories and two novels, My Uncle Jan (1945) and The Islanders (1951). Both held paid positions at the Library of Congress. He was the first Consultant in Poetry, and she was his secretary.
