A journalist and novelist, Fletcher Knebel was the author of a number of best-selling books of political intrigue. Born in Ohio, he came to DC as a political columnist for Cowles Publications. From 1951 to 1964, he satirized national politics and government in a nationally published column called “Potomac Fever.”
He authored three popular novels with his colleague Charles W. Bailey : No High Ground (1960), Seven Days in May (1962), and Convention (1964). He also authored ten other novels including Night of Camp David (1965), The Zin Zin Road (1966), Vanished (1968) and Poker Game (1983).
Seven Days in May was adapted into a celebrated 1964 film starring Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, and Ava Gardner with a screenplay by Rod Serling. His novel Vanished was made into a TV movie in 1971 starring Richard Widmark.
